About the Book
Ramayan is the most celebrated Epic of ancient India. Composed by Maharishi Valmiki, it narrates the eternally inspirational life story of Shri Ram in 24000 Sanskrit verses.
Like the first edition, this Second Edition has summarised this long poem in just 250 pages in simple language. Scientific proofs have been woven into the story with beautiful images; an attempt has been made to trace the journey of Shri Ram from Nar to Narayan.
Purchasers or Readers of a book on Ramayan would first like to have an answer to the question, “Why they should buy/read this book when more than 300 versions of Ramayan are already available in the market?”

This Book narrates the Biography of Lord Ram with exact dates of important events, depicting corresponding sky views of astronomical references in Ramayan and weaving other supporting multi-disciplinary scientific evidence into the story told by Maharshi Valmiki. After reading the book you may be able to conclude if it really moved Ramayan from the domain of mythology to the realm of History.
Readers can enjoy watching how the sky looked bright with five planets in their exalted position when Shri Ram was born (Planetarium software). Multiple seminars were conducted to have the conclusions validated by scientists. When some astronomers claimed that their software did not show the same Skyview on those particular dates, Stellarium Software was installed and it was found that it showed the same Sky views of those planetary references 41 (+/- one day) days later due to calendrical difference. The lunar tithi and the position of planets and nakshatras matched exactly with the details given in Ramayan.
The methodology adopted by the author is path-breaking and futuristic. After compiling the list of sequential astronomical dates of important events in the life of Shri Ram, supporting evidence from archaeology and palaeobotany, geology and oceanography, remote sensing and genetic studies were beautifully woven into the story, with stunning images and pictures obtained from the scientists who carried out the research.

Smt. Saroj Bala extended a warm welcome to Dr Suresh Prabhu and gave an overview of the contents of the Book. She explained that the book narrates the biography of Lord Ram with exact dates of important events, depicting corresponding sky views of astronomical references in Ramayan and weaving other supporting scientific evidence into the story told by Maharshi Valmiki. It moves Ramayan from the domain of mythology to the realm of History.
She explained that oceanographic evidence has revealed that Ramsetu was at a walkable level 7000 years back. It was primarily a natural land formation between India and Sri Lanka, which was filled up at five places in five days.
Remote sensing images and a visit to the Setu confirmed these facts. She explained that bow and arrow, ring and Churamani, Vata and Simsapa trees etc., with C14 dates of 7000-5000 BP, have been found during excavations.
She lamented that a lot of injustice has been done to the ancient culture and civilization of India; a false narrative of Aryan invasion was created without any supporting scientific evidence, whereas actually Vedic civilization has been indigenously developing in India for more than 9000 years. By spreading awareness about the historicity of Ramayan, we only discharge our duty to Bharat
Dr Suresh Prabhu appreciated the thorough research which led to the writing of a book of such a high level of content and credibility. He added that the author has spent her life as an officer of the Indian Revenue Service and, therefore has been used to carry out in-depth scrutiny and investigation. She has done a thorough job by correlating the contents of Ramayan with scientific proofs with technical precision. The time has now come when India should spread awareness about its true ancient history.
He added that now we can certainly hold our heads high and say that India has been home to one of the oldest and greatest civilizations. Ramayan was not a novel based on fiction but it contained India’s ancient history. Dr Suresh Prabhu recommended that after having a research book on Ramayan of this level and standard in our hands, it is our duty to disseminate very widely the information contained in the Book.
Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram was actually born in Ayodhya. He set an example of an ideal son, ideal brother, ideal king, ideal husband, and ideal social reformer; therefore, he has been worshipped as a god for thousands of years. Shri Ram, along with Lakshman and Sita, travelled from Ayodhya to Lanka. During this travel, he rendered selfless service to the noble people of Bharat Varsha by killing the demons who were constantly harassing them.
Dr Suresh Prabhu suggested that we should all read the book, and have organised discussions and Seminars, to which the leftist historians should also be invited. It would be almost impossible for anyone to contradict the scientific evidence included in this book. Thus, the negative narrative about our glorious ancient past would eventually be corrected.
Finally, he concluded by giving a call that by getting this book reached to every corner of India and by spreading awareness about its contents amongst everyone, including journalists, scholars, scientists, historians and devotees, we shall only be discharging our duty to our motherland and to God Almighty.

Discussion on ‘Ramayan Retold with Scientific Evidence’ during first session of Times LitFest, 2019
- On 30th November 2019, Ms. Sutapa Basu, on behalf of Times of India, discussed the contents of the book ‘Ramayan Retold with Scientific Evidence’ with the author Mrs. Saroj Bala in the opening session of Times LitFest. The talk was extremely interesting as well as engaging and the audience was very supportive and cheered the author repeatedly.
- The author explained the methodology adopted for determining the exact dates of events narrated in Ramayan. All astronomical references were extracted sequentially from Ramayan. The corresponding sky views were generated using Planetarium and Stellarium soft wares. In verses 8-10 of Sarga 18 (i.e Canto XVIII) in Baal Kaand (V.R.1/18/8-10), Maharshi Valmiki has recorded in detail the positions of planets, constellations and Nakshatras at the time of birth of Shri Ram as under:
ततोयज्ञेसमाप्तेतुऋतूनाषट्समत्ययु: ।ततश्चद्वादशेमासेचैत्रेनावमिकेतिथौ।।
नक्षत्रेऽदितिदैवत्येस्वोच्चसंस्थेषुपञ्चसु।ग्रहेषुकर्कटेलग्नेवाक्पताविन्दुनासह।।
प्रोद्यमानेजगन्नाथंसर्वलोकनमस्कृतम्।कौसल्याजनयद्रामंदिव्यलक्षणसंयुतम्।। (1/18/8-10)
Meaning: In the meantime, six seasons had rolled away. Twelve months after the completion of Putrakameshti yajna, on the ninth day of the waxing phase of the moon in the month of Chaitra, Kaushalya gave birth to a son, who was named Ram. He was endowed with auspicious divine marks and was blessed with exceptional qualities. At that time, the Nakshatra Punarvasu i.e. Polloux (presided over by Aditi) was in the ascendant and as many as five planets (Sun, Venus, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter) were in their exalted positions.
In simple language, the above verses mean that Shri Ram was born on Chaitra Shukla Navami when the position of different planets vis-a-vis zodiac constellations and Nakshatra (visible stars) was as under:
(i) Sun in Aries (exalted position)
(ii) Venus in Pisces (exalted position)
(iii) Mars in Capricorn (exalted location)
(iv) Saturn in Libra (exalted location)
(v) Jupiter in Cancer (exalted position)
(vi) Moon was near the Punarvasu Nakshatra*
(vii) Lagna as Cancer (Cancer constellation was rising in the east)
(viii) Moon & Jupiter were shining together in Cancer
(ix) Lunar month of Chaitra
(x) Ninth day after no moon (Shukla Paksha)
Using Planetarium software (of Fogware Publishing), all these planetary positions could be observed in the sky from Ayodhya (27˚N 82˚E) on 10th January 5114 BCE at noon time between 12 noon to 2 PM
